Anniversary

October 23rd, 2006 at 05:38 pm

Yesterday was my anniversary and to celebrate my husband took me to a very nice and expensive restaurant. He wanted to buy me a gift, card and flowers as well. But I said no. Why waste the money? I prefer that we save it and put it towards our goals. He was more than okay with that. So we settled on dinner out, something the both of us could enjoy.

Big mistake! Both the food and the service were lousey. The food was sparse to say the least. It didn't come with a salad, potatoe or vegetable . That was all extra. The bread that did come with the meal was cold and my creme brule was one of the worst I have ever had. The dinner tab came to $141.00+tip total came to $175.00. Can you believe we had to pay $6.00 for a small side of mashed potatoes? The food that we ordered wasn't exotic by any means. Rib eye steaks. Mine was a little burnt around the edges. Since we didn't order drinks with our meal our waiter didn't feel the need to give us his full attention, like the other patrons that were ordering bottles of wine. We don't drink and having water with our meals is our norm. This isn't the first place that ever gave us attitude because of this.
I have to say that I will not be visiting that establishment again. What a waste of money!

I'm so sorry your anniversary dinner was awful. That's a shame. Maybe the company made up for it! Happy Anniversary!

First of all, Happy Anniversary! How many years?

Second, that is awfully expensive for what you got and the service you received. Guess you know where you DON'T want to go next year!

I think I would have complained a lot!! Our meal out is usually $16-23 for both of us and that includes, bread, soup or salad, and side items like baked potatoes, pasta, brocolli, etc.

    Happy Anniversary also!

Take exactly what you wrote here on the blog and send it to them in a letter! Perhaps you'll get a partial refund or a comp meal. If nothing else you ought to feel better for getting the steam out!

Many happy returns of the special day!

Thank you all for the Happy Anniversary wishes. Rduell... We have been married for 18 years. JanH ...You are right the company was the best part of the evening. Lux... I am going to write them a letter because the more I think about the dinner, the more steamed I get. Ima...We thought for that kind of money we would have had a feast. Boy were we wrong!

18 years is awesome these days! :-) We'll be celebrating our 22nd in a couple of months. Of course we've known each other since kindergarten though. LOL!

Do write them a letter. Service should be top notch in a restaurant that expensive, whether you buy drinks or not. DH and I usually order only water or on the rare occassion, milk. I have found if the place is expensive that it pays to have a chat up front with the waiter. I'll look them right in the eye and say, "We don't drink, but we tip well for excellent service." It tends to get the point across. And then we do tip well if the service is excellent.
